Fighting Back on SugarHouse's Opening Day

Thursday, September 23, 2010 - 12:00pm - 2:00pm

Location

Penn Treaty Park
N. Delaware Avenue & E. Columbia Avenue
Philadelphia, PA

On SugarHouse's opening day, we'll be there to plan for their closing day.

We're going to document and expose SugarHouse's predatory tactics through a casino town watch. Just like a neighborhood watch, we'll be working to ensure the safety of our friends and neighbors. And if we shut down their predatory tactics, we shut down SugarHouse. Casinos will go bankrupt when they can no longer rely on addiction to survive.

We will expose SugarHouse's predatory tactics to Philadelphians across the city, ensuring everyone is aware of the way the casino seeks to exploit our friends and neighbors. We will shut down SugarHouse — and ensure Foxwoods never opens.

At this family-friendly event, we'll present our community murals for a better city, confront SugarHouse during its opening ceremony, and proceed with our inaugural casino town watch.

We'll meet in Penn Treaty Park at 12 noon to get organized, energized and familiarized with our plans for the upcoming months. Then, shortly before 1 PM, we will walk over to SugarHouse to confront them for their opening of predatory gambling in Philly. If you're not available for the full event, please come for as long as you can.

The park is located about a 10-minute walk from the Girard Avenue stop on the Market-Frankford line, or a 5-minute walk from the Columbia Avenue stop on the Girard Avenue trolley. You can view a map or get directions on Google Maps.

You can RSVP below, or view this event on Facebook. Please invite your friends and neighbors!
