Foxwoods is in shambles, and it's due to your hard work.
Early this month, the main owner Ron Rubin and his cronies made yet another plea for more time to find a way to put a casino in South Philly.
But Rubin said in his filing to the PA Gaming Control Board, "From the beginning, Philadelphia's City Council and certain local activists groups, among others, disagreed with the Board's decision to locate the Casino at the Columbus Boulevard site, and thus, actively opposed [our] efforts to obtain the necessary permits and licenses to begin construction at the Columbus Boulevard site. [We were] therefore required, time and time again, to take action to counter each of these obstacles to its ability to begin construction of the Casino at the Columbus Boulevard Site."
Because of your dedication to stopping the predatory casino industry from setting up shop in Philadelphia, the Foxwoods casino license is on the path to being revoked. But to ensure this happens will take much in time and money.
Your efforts to stop the casino industry from bringing its predatory tactics to Philadelphia are working, and now is the time -- more than ever before -- to ramp up our efforts.
SugarHouse will likely open its doors in the fall, and it's up to us to continue to expose the predatory tactics that would hurt our communities. In the coming weeks, we'll be rolling out our strategy against SugarHouse with ways that you can help.
We already know, however, that giving SugarHouse the treatment it deserves will require a strong and prolonged series of actions and efforts. Be assured that SugarHouse is currently gearing up its public relations machine and that huge amounts of public investment and messaging will be put forth by the city of Philadelphia, the commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a number of others who stand to gain money, including the tourism bureau, the convention center and several other groups that are on the take.
That's what we're up against.
So please help us by donating today. Consider becoming a monthly donor and creating a small, but automatic payment from your credit card -- even $5 per month will make a big difference.
Thank you!
