Celebrating victories and creating a sustainable future

Gather round!

Unlike SugarHouse and Foxwoods, we are pleased to inform you that Casino-Free Philadelphia is able to obtain financing. Tomorrow night, Casino-Free Philadelphia is honored to be receiving a grant from the Bread & Roses Community Fund. We'll be joining together with other grant recipients, community groups, activists and social change funders in the Philadelphia area.

And we'd like you to join us!

The evening will be an excellent opportunity to recall and reflect on Casino-Free's success over the past year in keeping casinos out of the city. One of our methods is to bring public attention to the costs of predatory gambling, as we did at last month's Anti-Casino Circus with the No Casino in the Heart of the City Coalition (see photos and video from the circus). The event tomorrow night will also allow you to meet and talk with social change leaders from around the region.

RSVPs are free, but required. Sign up to attend the event now.

We know, of course, that the threat of predatory gambling in our city is by no means extinguished. The proposed SugarHouse casino on the waterfront recently cleared a regulatory hurdle from the planning commission, and the city council continues to be supportive of Foxwoods casino at the Gallery in Chinatown. But apparently the smart money is more willing to invest in the social change efforts of Casino-Free than in the predatory business of slots.

Will you join Bread & Roses in helping support our work moving forward?

We could never have achieved so much without your help. Your letters, phone calls, rallies, testimony — and, yes, donations — have kept Philadelphia casino-free for three years. Now, more than ever, we need your help to continue our success. Indeed, when foundations consider giving us a grant, they look very closely at the commitments of our grassroots supporters like you.

Please consider making a donation to Casino-Free Philadelphia today.

If you're not able to make a financial contribution at this time, we are always looking for volunteers! If you can’t donate money, please donate your time. Stay tuned for an announcement of an exciting summer series of events to discuss, collaborate and plan for our next wave of actions to keep Philadelphia casino-free into 2010!
